Beware of poisonous plants!

With the arrival of fine weather, we’re delighted to see our flowerbeds blooming again. But are all the plants that adorn our yards and grow in our gardens safe for children?

Did you know that tomato plants are poisonous (leaves and stems) and that they should be planted in a part of the yard that children can’t access? Did you know that rhubarb plants are also toxic (leaves and roots)?

Health, safety and food training will teach you more about this, as well as topics such as dietary requirements, meal quality, hygiene rules, infection prevention and the maintenance of equipment and premises.

To avoid poisoning cases, make a list of the plants you have at home and keep the labels of the plant containers you buy, then look up the names of your plants in the directory of the Canadian Poisonous Plants Information System..

If you suspect that a child has ingested or come into contact with a poisonous plant, call the Centre antipoison du Québec immediately at 1-800-463-5060. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You can find more information on the website of the Poison Control Center.
