Autumn is already upon us, forcing us to take steps to prepare for the cold season. Among the choices to be made are the famous boots. Since your child is likely to be cramped in last year’s boots, we’ll probably have to get him some new ones. How can we make the right choice and ensure that our little one’s feet won’t freeze come winter? <\/strong><\/p>\n

First of all, shopping for boots without your child is not the best thing to do. You need to have him try the boots on to see if they’re the right size, the right width and if he likes them. <\/p>\n

Here are a few things to look for when shopping for boots:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The right size<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

To avoid having to buy a new pair of boots before the end of winter, choose boots large enough to last five to six months. Plan for a larger stitch or enough space to add a large pair of socks on colder days. <\/p>\n

You should be able to pass a finger between the top of the calf and the top of the boot. In addition, the front of the boot should be wide enough to allow the child to move his foot inside the boot. <\/p>\n

Boots shouldn’t be too big either. If the child loses his boots, they’re too big. There’s no point in compensating with several pairs of socks. Boots that are much too big will hinder your child’s walking, as they force him to drag his heel. <\/p>\n

The right model<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to the right size, the type of boot should also be checked. Choose a boot with an ankle brace to hold the boot in place and enable the child to move around safely. <\/p>\n

The sole should be flexible enough to bend and have a heel no more than 1 cm high. Choose a non-slip sole with well-defined ridges to avoid slipping on icy surfaces. Thick soles are also an excellent choice, as they keep the sole of the foot further from the ground. <\/p>\n

Waterproof or water-resistant boots<\/u> <\/u>?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The waterproof boot is made of tightly woven, non-porous material with airtight, waterproof seams, keeping feet dry even in the rain.<\/p>\n

The water-resistant boot is made of tightly woven material and specially treated with a finish, such as a silicone spray, that causes water to bead up on the surface of the fabric to prevent it from penetrating. Over time, the finish can deteriorate and allow water to enter. <\/p>\n

If you choose water-resistant boots, it’s a good idea to bring a spare pair, in case your child’s feet get wet.<\/p>\n

Can we reuse big brother’s boots<\/u> <\/u>?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In general, this can be done, provided the boot is not warped or cracked. If the boot is water-resistant, a new coat of waterproof coating can be applied. <\/p>\n

If the felt inside is crushed, it can be replaced to keep the boot warm and comfortable.<\/p>\n

Make sure your child’s feet aren’t cold<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Even if your child has good boots, it’s important to check that they keep him warm.<\/p>\n

Remember that children, especially if they don’t move much, can freeze their feet faster than their companions or adults.<\/p>\n

If you’re out for a long time, or during very cold weather, remove a boot from time to time to check that the child’s feet are still warm. If you notice that the child’s feet are cold, bring the child indoors. <\/p>\n
